Job Description for Masters Level Clinical Position(s)
PMHS is seeking a
masters-level professional to join our small, dedicated team. We are
especially successful with providing skilled new graduates licensed
supervision and varied clinical experiences to launch their new
professional career.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
PMHS is seeking a
masters-level professional to join our small, dedicated team. We are
especially successful with providing skilled new graduates licensed
supervision and varied clinical experiences to launch their new
professional career.
This is an
opportunity for an unparalleled breadth of clinical experience. We are
looking for a clinician who has a working knowledge of substance use
disorders, who is eager to creatively engage with children, teens, and
families in their home and community, who can meet clients "where they
are at," and who enjoys the challenge of responding to “whatever walks
through the door.” PMHS is a nonprofit mental health
and substance abuse center located on a rural Southeastern Alaskan
island. Petersburg is a fishing community (ranked 9th in the nation in
volume of fish product). Residents are primarily of Scandinavian and
Alaskan Native origins. Population: 3,100. The island is 211 square
miles, with 18+ square miles of muskeg bogs. We’re not cold so much as
wet, nestled in the middle of a rainforest. The Alaskan wilderness—with
hiking, kayaking, fishing, and camping opportunities—is right outside
your door. "Whale watching" can be accomplished on your way to work!
Walk the docks at lunch or look out your office window to see the sea
lions. For information, see www.petersburg.org. We
deliver a variety of services: psychotherapy (individual, couples,
family, group), substance abuse treatment, school social work, case
management, emergency services, critical incident stress debriefing,
psychosocial rehabilitation, educational workshops, prevention, and
client advocacy. We run state-recognized innovative programs that
include Digital Storytelling, the Community Garden Project, and the
“Connecting Threads” Crafts Program. We serve all
populations, from severely emotionally disturbed children and
chronically mentally ill adults to individuals seeking psychotherapy or
substance abuse services. PMHS has built its success on
interdisciplinary teamwork and we have strong mutual relationships with
local agencies. We hold more than 15 years of top quality-assurance
scores from the state of Alaska (scores have ranged from 97% to 100%).
Respect for our center is high due to our priority on client
confidentiality, competentcy, and responsiveness to community and
client needs.
Adding a member to our team is a carefully
considered task. We enjoy coming to work because of our dedication to
our clients and community, but also because of the qualities of
productivity, cooperation, and support between our staff members. We
have an excellent staff retention record.
Applicants must be
well-educated in professional ethics. The right of client
confidentiality at PMHS is paramount. Applicants must be committed to
working with children, families, and adults in a variety of therapeutic
and rehabilitation modalities.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Masters in Social Work, or other clinical field. Prefer one year experience with children and/or teens (this can include school internships). Much of this position will be serving kids and families, but as we are a rural center, your clinical caseload will be varied and you will gain clinical experience with every type of client population. Must have professional energy & competence, & strong verbal & written communication skills. Solid assessment, organizational, and documentation skills required. We will provide supervision & training to work toward licensure.
Our mission is to do “whatever works” in order for our clients
to function at the highest possible level of independence and have an
improved quality of life.
To be considered for our team,
working positively with other staff and other local professionals and
community members is a must.
In addition to a positive work
environment and licensed supervision, we offer a competitive salary and
benefits package. There is a relocation stipend as well.
